Well we were lucky enough to get our hands on some free tickets for the Adelaide Show yesterday, so off we went. Parking was pretty awful, and although there is a lot of businesses around offering expensive parking, it is disappointing that the council have put up temporary parking restrictions for two hours in an obvious attempt to grab parking fine money. Parking inspectors were out in force.
Anyway, We got in nice and early at 11am, so that we could get in to the show bag hall and avoid the crowds. Great time of the day to do this, as there is so much room to move, and we wandered around there slowly without getting bumped around, and the kids got the show bags that they wanted. Great time to whiz back to the car to drop them off, so we don’t have to carry them around all day.
One thing we lover about the show is the Yellow Brick Road Show bag. What this does is encourage you to explore the entire showgrounds, and keeps it exciting for the children. Along the way, you collect things like a loaf of bread, apples, oranges, yoghurt, most healthy stuff for the kids to nibble on, so it stops them asking for food all the time too.
We went through some of the halls, and grabbed a few items, and checked out some booths, with many activities for the kids along the way. I tried out the chilli factory and tried out their hottest chilli, and then spent the next few minutes rushing around the hall trying to find water. Probably not my best move of the day.
Then we popped down to check out The League of Sideshow Superstars which was really good. Good old fashioned carnival performers. Awesome!
We headed through for some more pavilions including the farm barn one, and the kids petted some animals, such as sheep and had a go at getting their tractor license. Quite fun really for them. Getting some sore feet now from all the walking though.
Sideshow Time!!
We headed down to sideshow alley, and listened to the kids saying, “I want to do that one” past every one that we walked past. We gave them a few tries at some side shows, and they won some small prizes.
My son went on the tea cup ride and had a great time, and then my daughter took us on some more grown up rides, which was great fun. She really loved going on the Carn-Evil with mum, and then topped it off with a go on the bumper cars.
Time was getting away from us, so my wife and I went on the big dipper which was great fun.
Motorcross and Fireworks
Now we rushed down to the main arena, just in time to see the end of the motorcross, and then followed by a great fireworks display, which topped off our day and night. My sons first fireworks, and he loved it.
We went back down to the rides area, and gave the kids one last ride before we head off, then back to the car for the drive home.
Summary: Awesome day. The kids had a fantastic time, and enjoyed every minute. Highly recommended.

Just a quick update on this one. The Show is now over for another year, but it comes around again next year. Our kids are still talking about it. By the time next Royal show comes around our other site Family Accommodation will also be launched, so you can find some family friendly accommodation near the showgrounds if you want to avoid the drive home.
